Andy studied Fine Art Painting, at Winchester School of Art, at a time when the late Gillian Ayres was Head of Painting. After 22 years as an art teacher at Cheltenham Ladies’ College he has now begun to pursue his own studio work full time.
Andy has always enjoyed drawing with paint and believes technique is as important as the subject, using marks as a vocabulary to create a composition. Some of his work is figurative but the technique can lead to more abstract work, particularly when working from landscape.
The painting ‘Falling’, is one of a group of paintings that can be viewed as a reflection of the artist and the letting go of the many securities that come with professional career – a vulnerability, a leap of faith.
