David Brown

David Brown was born in Derbyshire and now lives in the ancient village of Merriott in south west Somerset. David’s work is influenced by his long term interest in the sea, costal rocks, erosion, fossils, shells and coral.

Many of his pieces have textural or pierced rims and some have melted glass pools in the base. David produces a range of vessel forms including bowls and vases in matt and textured glazes, mainly in turquoise, sometimes incorporating sand, grit, pieces of fired ceramic or glass into his hand crafted pieces.

"All my life I have been fascinated by where the land meets the sea, Rocks which have been laid down and perhaps uplifted or folded for millennia are exposed in cliff faces, constantly reformed by waves and wind to reveal hidden secrets. My pots are more abstract or symbolic interpretations of such phenomena."
